Though “semi-retired,” Capt. Simms stays busy booking trips for the talented captains on his team. Born in Chattanooga, he worked in law enforcement before moving into photography and public relations with TWRA. Eventually, he returned home and found a new career as a broadcast journalist and freelance outdoor writer. His book, an Outdoor State of Mind, reflects his lifelong connection to nature and fishing. In 2006, he launched Scenic City Fishing Charters, never expecting it to grow into one of the largest guide services in the region. He credits its success to a team of skilled captains who prioritize the angler’s enjoyment and the outstanding fishery they have access to. Over time, he has built a strong team that includes Captain Ben Hayes, Captain Sam Simons, Capt. Joe Jellison, Capt. Aaron Massey, Capt. Ben Hayes, Capt. Chris Peters, Capt. Josh Antwine and Capt. Scott Lillie.

Fishing trips are available for four, six, or eight hours, seven days a week, with advance reservations required.
