Bayou Obsession Charters is an inshore and nearshore fishing operation based out of Lafitte, Louisiana, run by Captain Matt Mattice. The charter focuses on year-round fishing in the protected waters and surrounding marsh systems of southeast Louisiana, an area known for its consistency regardless of wind direction or seasonal shifts.
Trips typically depart at first light, allowing Captain Matt to take advantage of optimal tidal movement and quiet conditions before boat traffic increases. Much of the fishing takes place in sheltered inshore waters, with additional opportunities to work nearshore areas, reefs, and flats when conditions allow.
Captain Matt operates a 24-foot Blazer Bay, originally built in 2017 and powered by a 300-horsepower Yamaha outboard, providing a stable and capable platform for up to four anglers. Trips are conducted using light tackle, with anglers targeting species such as redfish, speckled trout, sheepshead, black drum, flounder, and other common Gulf Coast inshore fish depending on the season and conditions. Both live bait and artificial lures are used, with live bait typically available in onboard livewells when conditions permit. All rods, reels, tackle, and bait are provided, allowing guests to focus entirely on fishing rather than logistics.
Bayou Obsession Charters is well suited for anglers of all experience levels, including beginners and families. Captain Matt places an emphasis on creating a relaxed, instructional environment and is comfortable fishing with children, provided advance notice is given so proper safety gear can be prepared. For anglers looking to extend their stay, the operation can also arrange lodging packages, making it possible to combine multiple days on the water with local accommodations. Overall, Bayou Obsession Charters offers a straightforward, all-inclusive inshore fishing experience centered on local knowledge, flexible water access, and practical fishing rather than packaged spectacle.
